The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recently added a new criteria to rate vehicle safety. In addition to passing frontal offset-, side impact-, and rear crash- tests, now, all vehicles must also pass a roof-strength test. Federal testing standards mandate vehicle roofs be able to withstand 1.5 times the vehicle's weight.
