Fall Right into the Perfect Time to Service Your Vehicle
As another summer comes to an end, it’s hard to believe the past few months have flown right by. During a very strange & abnormal time, we’ve somehow made it through another month and another season. If you’ve been avoiding getting your vehicle serviced because of the pandemic, Mungenast St. Louis Honda is here to help get your vehicle in and out of the Service Center quickly & safely. Not only are we offering “Social Distance Servicing,” but we’re also offering a complimentary Valet Service that can be used as a pick-up and delivery option for your vehicle. While your vehicle may need other services, we’ve put together a short list of tips to better prepare your vehicle for the colder months ahead.
Start with an Inspection
First things first, get a vehicle inspection so you know what you need to focus on. Vehicle inspections include several checks including tests on your battery, fluids, belts, engine hoses, lights, general transmission services and more. The cold temperatures and snow can do a number on your vehicle, so it’s important to get preventative work before that happens.
Check Tires
While most vehicles will notify you when tire air pressure is getting low, that’s not the case for all of them. Cold temperatures cause tires to lose pressure even quicker, so it’s important to fill them to the necessary PSI before the temperatures drop even lower. Also check the tread on your tires, as traction is extremely important in slippery conditions. While you may end up switching to snow tires, it’s important to keep your normal tires in tip-top shape for the months leading up to winter. The tread depth of your tires should be 2/32” deep, otherwise they won’t be getting enough traction regardless of the road conditions. Have you ever heard of the penny test? An easy way to check the tread depth is to place a penny with Lincoln’s head face down into the grooves of your tire. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, your tire is too worn down and should be replaced.
Check Windshield Wipers
Windshield wipers may not be at the front of your mind, especially with the beautiful summer we’ve had thus far. While you may have been putting them to use, you may not realize how ineffective they really are until it’s too late. As rain and snow can have very different effects on your vehicle, make sure your windshield wipers are performing to the best of their ability before the snow starts to fall. Also check windshield wiper fluid levels as road salt can cloud your view!
Clean or Switch Out Floor Mats
This summer has been perfect for exploring the great outdoors. However, along with the great outdoors comes a little dirt. If you’ve been piling in the sand, beach water, dirt or who knows what into your vehicle this summer, it may be time for a deep cleaning or maybe even a new set of floor mats. Carpeted mats can be tougher to clean and can easily become moldy without frequent cleaning. With some deep cleaning, most can become squeaky clean again. But, if they’re beyond repair, it may be time to consider rubber all-weather mats with grooves to capture dirt, dust, liquid or anything else you may bring in. Like the name says, they’re great for all weather!
While Fall is just around the corner, we’re not ready to ditch the sunscreen, camping chairs and lawn games just yet. When the time comes, unload your car of all unnecessary weight in order to increase your vehicle’s gas mileage. Remember to replace any lights or blinkers as they become even more crucial during the winter. And finally, restock your vehicle with any necessary items including a first aid kit, blankets, waters, snacks, medicine, electronic chargers and any other necessary items you may not have needed in the warmer months. The staff at the Mungenast St. Louis Honda Service Center are available to answer any and all of your questions and get your vehicle in and out as quickly as possible. Whether you need vehicle service, or a part repaired, our expert technicians use high-tech equipment and up-to-date technology to ensure that your vehicle is getting the quality it deserves.
